Functionality
Without a doubt, SmartRoundtrip’s best features are: flexibility and rapid client application development capabilities, besides being an extremely sophisticated information management tool.
The result is a dynamic infrastructure for the creation, development and deployment of client applications, that features a high degree of scalability and upgradeability over time.
Applications generated by SmartRoundtrip to manage, manipulate and share information come from the formal definition of the data itself (metadata).
This formal description makes it possible to determine the flow information will follow from an author, inside the system, all the way to its deployment to an external data source.
SmartRoundtrip reads the information as structured or binary, correlated by semantics within a given context. While context and semantics are the responsibility of the system administrator, SmartRoundtrip remains independent since it is linked to the characteristics of the single entities that make up the information.
On the other hand, as far as the binary resources are concerned, such as documents, images, files, video clips and/or movies, they are managed as separate entities upon which it is possible to append metadata in order to describe the information and allow for batch processes and shared searches.
It is also possible to define the manner in which synchronization of binary data is performed: a file can always be synchronized or it can be synchronized on demand. In both scenarios, a preview of the file and its metadata are synchronized, thus guaranteeing a notion of its contents at all times; therefore reducing the space needed to store SmartRoundtrip files in a client computer thus minimizing the unnecessary file exchange between clients and servers, optimizing the servers’ workload and decreasing bandwidth requirements and connection time.
Our workflow module allows you to trace the route of the information during its lifecycle within the system, or to verify, through automatic features or through authoring processes, the requirements and the achievement of minimum set of standards for publishing on a corporate database, a Web site or a shared resource.
SmartRoundtrip allows creation of different views for a single piece of information linked by users’ type, establishing diverse access rights on the single entities that make up the information. The entire process is automatic and depends on the credentials presented by the user at the moment he/she logs into the system.
Additionally, SmartRoundtrip expands the traditional file-system concept, featuring a system of shared files: the SmartRoundtrip-FileSystem. This file-system allows file sharing among all users with equal access rights, automatically synchronizing the information; thus ensuring that each client has the latest version of the data at all times. This functionality is not just merely a replication of files to the client computer; it is a full-feature file system that only grants access to previously authorized users.
Another benefit of SmartRoundtrip is it ability to work off-line (stand-alone mode): meaning SmartRoundtrip offers full functionality and operability to client computers even when they are not connected to a server on a corporate LAN / WAN and/or the Internet. The SmartRoundtrip client application has been designed to use local computer resources when working off-line; reducing employees’ down-time and even increasing individual productivity since, at this point; all computing operations are being executed by non-shared local computer resources. More importantly, your company eliminates its dependency on unstable private and/or public networks.
Moreover, SmartRoundtrip is multi-source. It can interconnect simultaneously with heterogeneous data sources, such as: relational database servers, flat-file systems, FTP servers, or any other data source that contains the information needed by the SmartRoundtrip client to populate its front-end applications. The main point is that the metadata (descriptive data) within SmartRoundtrip objects come from where it resides; therefore its accuracy is always guaranteed at the time of deployment and/or publishing.
SmartRoundtrip is multi-level: a software architecture divided in various levels of information concept abstraction. The macro levels are basically three: the data source level, including an external one to SmartRoundtrip; the application logic level – on the server side – and the front-end level, the client software through which interaction and management of SmartRoundtrip’s information is performed. This product does not solve just one specific problem; thanks to its dynamic nature, its applications have the ability to solve multiple information management problems using data definitions that make up the system.
